Lowestoft Bridge Could Shut Next Week

Lowestoft motorists are being advised to prepare for a potential closure of the Gull Wing bridge next week while maintenance work is carried out.

The bridge is scheduled to close from midnight on Monday 13th July until 4pm on Tuesday 14th July.

Suffolk County Council says some of the planned work involves materials that can only be used in dry weather, meaning a final decision on whether the closure goes ahead will be made closer to the time once the forecast is confirmed.

If conditions remain favourable, the bridge will be closed throughout the day and overnight to allow the maintenance to be completed.

The council says the current spell of warm weather means the work is expected to go ahead as planned, but it will update motorists as soon as possible if the weather changes and the closure has to be postponed.

Drivers are being encouraged to plan their journeys in advance in case the closure proceeds.
