Fire crews were called to a car fire on Wainford Road in Bungay late at night after reports that a vehicle was ablaze near a hedgerow.
Engines from Bungay and Beccles fire stations arrived to find the car well alight. Firefighters used a single hose reel jet and breathing apparatus to safely extinguish the flames and prevent the fire from spreading to nearby vegetation.
Once the fire was out, crews handed the scene over to Suffolk Highways due to damage to the road surface caused by the intense heat. No injuries were reported, and no ambulance was required at the scene.
Fire crews were in attendance for just over an hour before leaving the area safe. Residents in the area may notice some disruption while the damaged section of Wainford Road is assessed and repaired.
Suffolk Fire and Rescue praised the swift action of crews from Bungay and Beccles in preventing the fire from spreading further and ensuring public safety.
