Police have confirmed that the death of a woman found in the River Waveney in Beccles is not being treated as suspicious, and that she has now been identified.
Officers were called to The Quay on New Year's Day morning, under the bridge, after a member of the public reported concerns about a woman in the river. Emergency services attended the scene and the woman was recovered from the water, where she was sadly confirmed to be deceased.
Following initial enquiries, police said there was no evidence to suggest the circumstances were suspicious. An appeal was issued to help identify the woman and establish her final movements.
Police have now confirmed that the woman has been identified, and a file will be prepared for HM Coroner in due course.
Officers have thanked members of the public who responded to the appeal and provided information, saying the assistance helped bring clarity to the investigation.
